This course shall cover photographic practices in India since the arrival of the camera in 1840, to present day digital technologies that continue to evolve. The course shall mainly consider theoretical aspects of photography, its historical trajectory and its impact on the cultural, political and economic fabric of India. Technological details of the mechanics of photography shall be examined for their aesthetic and artistic influence. The course shall be complemented with lectures by practitioners and theoreticians as well as visits to archives and exhibitions on photography.
